Accessibility at Leaf Design

We build websites for a living, so we hold our own to the standard we’d want for yours. This page explains how accessible www.leafdesign.ca is, how we tested it, what we know isn’t perfect, and how to reach a real person if something gets in your way.

How accessible this website is

We have measured leafdesign.ca against WCAG 2.2 Level AA – the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines published by the World Wide Web Consortium, at the level most commonly referenced in Canadian and international accessibility law.

This website is partially conformant with WCAG 2.2 Level AA. Partially conformant means the site meets the standard apart from the specific items listed under “Known limitations” below.

What we’ve done

Accessibility was built into this site rather than added at the end. Specifically:

• Every page uses proper heading structure, landmark regions, and a “Skip to main content” link so keyboard and screen reader users can move around quickly
• All form fields carry visible, programmatically associated labels, and related options are grouped so screen readers announce them in context
• Form fields identify their purpose to the browser, so autofill works for people who find typing difficult
• Text colours were tested against their actual backgrounds and adjusted where contrast fell short
• Decorative images are hidden from screen readers so they don’t clutter the experience, while meaningful images carry descriptions
• The whole site is operable by keyboard alone, including navigation, forms, and expandable FAQ sections
• Content reflows to narrow screens and remains usable at 200% zoom
• Motion is suppressed for visitors whose device is set to reduce motion

Known limitations

We’d rather tell you about these than have you find them.

The homepage banner video. The homepage header shows a short, silent video loop behind the headline. There is no on-screen button to pause it. If your device or browser is set to reduce motion, the video is hidden automatically and you will not see it at all. The video is decorative and carries no information you’ll miss.

Sticky menu bar. When scrolling the website a semi-translucent menu bar will appear near the top of the page. The logo, menu items, and button colours automatically adjust contrast based on the section being scrolled underneath. However, due to varying screen sizes and dynamic content, it is possible that there may be some design elements that don’t meet contrast requirements temporarily.

Our cookie consent banner. The consent notice is provided by a third-party tool. We’ve tested that it works by keyboard and doesn’t obstruct the site, but we don’t control its code and it may change when the provider updates it. If the banner ever prevents you from using this site, please tell us – we treat that as urgent.

How we tested

We assessed this website by self-evaluation, completed on July 29, 2026.

Testing combined automated tooling with manual review and direct inspection of the site’s code:

• Screen reader testing with VoiceOver on Safari (macOS)
• Testing in Google Chrome and Safari on macOS
• Siteimprove Accessibility Checker (Chrome extension)
• WebAIM WAVE Tool
• WebAIM Contrast Checker
• Manual keyboard-only testing of every page and interactive component
• Manual code inspection of markup, styles, and third-party scripts

We have not yet commissioned an independent third-party audit, and we have not yet conducted usability testing with people with disabilities. Both would strengthen the assessment, and we say so here rather than imply a more thorough evaluation than we performed.

Technical information

This website relies on HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. It is designed to work with current versions of major browsers and with assistive technologies including screen readers, screen magnifiers, and speech recognition software.

If you use an older browser or assistive technology, some features may not work as expected. Let us know and we’ll help you get what you need another way.

Information in other formats

If you need anything on this website in a different format – large print, plain text, or another accessible format – ask and we’ll provide it in a reasonable timeframe at no extra cost. This is set out more fully in our Accessible Customer Service Policy.

Our commitment

We treat accessibility as ongoing work rather than a finished task. This site will keep changing, and every change is a chance to introduce a barrier we didn’t intend. We re-test after significant changes and review this statement at least once a year.

If we’ve missed something, telling us is the fastest way to get it fixed.
